Progress for each character is kept when you switch datasets; the statistics above cover only the selected datasets.

Choose the character’s dictionary tone. For characters with several readings, the small context cue tells you which reading to use. Each deck teaches one selected reading per character, not every possible pronunciation. Tone changes in connected speech (such as 一, 不 and third-tone sandhi) are not tested.

Missed characters return after one minute. First-try successes move through 10 minutes, 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, 14 days and 30 days. Due reviews come before new characters. Correcting a mistake reveals the answer, but doesn’t count as a first-try success.

Each answer includes an example word or short phrase. Examples use the reading being tested and may include characters beyond the selected level. Some example words contain neutral syllables.

Progress is saved in this browser on this website. It doesn’t sync between devices. Clearing site data removes it; private browsing may only retain it temporarily. Auto-advance applies only to first-try correct answers. After a mistake or “I don’t know”, the answer stays visible. Press any key or click Next question to continue. Turn off auto-advance to read every answer at your own pace.
